In the centre of the vault is painted the emblem of the bundle of arrows tied by a ribbon with the motto NON SUNT TALES AMORES (not such are love). If one translates the motto, it can be understood as a personal reference to Francesco II, who would not consider his loves so numerous and firm – even in the solidity of the bundle -. In the lunettes are the imprint of the turtledove, symbol of fidelity, the hind looking at the sun with the motto BIDER CRAFT (i.e. ‘against the imposition of force and evil’), the muzzle and the Great Dane dog.
